Like any new mother, I was very naive about potty-training. When you, Emily, were about 1 year old, I went out and bought an assortment of potties and thought to myself, this will be a piece of cake, I will boast to all the other moms how easy it was. I will potty-train Emmy in no time.
Well, you loved the potty, you played on the potty, put your toys in it, sat on it, but never went to the bathroom in it. I talked and showed you what it was for but to no avail. We watched countless videos on potty-training. And all the while my friends were potty-training their kids easily enough. I felt like a failure. You were now 3 1/2 years old and nothing was happening. I was looking at preschools but couldn't get you in any of them because you were not potty-trained. I was so distraught, then one day I was talking to your daddy (you were with us) on how potty-training was so hard and how I just wanted you to go on the potty. The next day, you said no more pull-ups, put on your underwear, then said I need to go to the potty and you went. You went number 1 and number 2 and that was it, you were potty-trained. You didn't even need pull-ups at night after that day. You went cold turkey on the whole potty-training thing. You were ready!
I know my baby girl that for some things in life you will be ready the same way you were for potty-training. It does not matter that it may take you a little time to get ready, because when you are ready, you are ready!!
